13. December

Guess what! Yesterday I finally went to see my ballet. For this special event of course I dedicated a few hours of time to prepare myself - but does anything in my life ever go down without hazards? Haha, no. Good Joke though. When I was just about to take a shower I realized I couldn't find my razor. I knew Chris had tidied up a little and so my Shampoo stood outside the shower, but I had no idea where he could have taken my razor. So I went into the living room and asked "Chris, would you happen to know where my razor has gone?"
He is just quiet for a moment and then said: "I thought it was a disposable one." I just remember my mouth dropping open in disbelief and with the strong urge to burst into laughter. "So, did you through it away?" Chris nodded. "So, is it gone?" "Mmh, yeah. The garbage was collected yesterday,
My razor who I have had ever since I started shaving. 5 years ago or something and I have grown very attached to it's light blue color! Well, it is gone now. And I thought I was going to die due to the perspective of not being able to shave on such an important day. Luckily they did have one last disposable one I could use. But now I still don't have one and just hope I can get another one here, because I still have blades for it.

All the rest of my getting ready process went pretty fine and so I met with Owen shortly past seven.
At this point I can say how absolutely much I loved the ballet. It was exactly what I was hoping for (except during intermission we were sure it was going to have a sad ending). I had no idea what the Snow Queen was until I saw a shattered mirror and the main male having troubles with his eyes and his heart. Something clicked and I had the hunch I actually knew the story, but still wasn't sure. Until I found out that the other male was actually a reindeer and then I remembered a story on cassette that Tim and I sometimes listened to. A story happening in Lapland. This made it even more special.
The story is about two childhood friends Greta and Kai who fall in love in their small town. There is a mirror which distorts reality and makes the pretty ugly and the ugly pretty. The devil wants to transports this mirror into heaven to destroy it, but while lifting it up the mirror falls and shatters. One splinter hits Kai in the eye and one in the heart so that he is not interested in Greta anymore but follows the Snow Queen into her palace. (She wore a beautiful icy dress with a long flowing coat). Greta runs after him to save him and meets a robber girl and her crew who help her by setting her up with the reindeer on which she rides to the palace. There she is held up at first by the ice maidens and ice men. Then she is allowed to see Kai and cries over him. The love in her tears washes the splinter out of his heart. He starts crying as well, which washes the splinter out of his eye. They are allowed to leave (which I didn't understand) and ride home with the robber girl, that they meet again on the way.

The costumes were exactly what I was hoping for and my favorite part were Kai's solos. He actually impressed me much more than the main females. I also loved hearing the young girls gasp in excitement upon seeing the the ice maiden's light blue sparkly tutus and special lifts in the duets. We had an older man sitting next to us who clapped and made comments in between like people do when watching a sports game. "Mmh, very nice!", he would say appreciatively.
It was nice to have Owen with me. He is fun and smart and made the experience that much nicer. Sadly I forgot to take photos while we were out! Now I can only present you with some I Halia made before I left and those I made for Jenni's birthday last night.
