Auf den Spuren von Blinky Bill

Es ist der 19. Juli und in 19 Tagen geht's los. 2 Tage unterwegs, Stop in Singapur, bis wir am 9. August nachmittags in Sydney landen werden. Noch wissen wir nicht, wo wir dort unterkommen werden, was wir dort tun werden und wann wir die falschgeglaubte Hauptstadt Australiens in Richtung Westen verlassen.

Der Flug allerdings ist festgebucht, zurückziehen geht also nicht mehr und das deutsche Wetter stimmt ausnahmsweise mal auf die bevorstehende Reise ein. Während wir jetzt schon hechelnd draußen sitzen, mit kaltem Wasser und dahinschmelzenden Pralinen, sind diese Temperaturen nichts gegen die, die uns erwarten.

Wir sind unbekümmert, ignorieren den Arbeitsberg, den es noch zu bewältigen gibt, und beschäftigen uns erst einmal mit der Packliste. Eben leichte Kost für den Anfang. Klar, nach möglichen (unglaublich überteuerten) Hostels kann man sich auch schon umsehen, aber bei der großen Auswahl wollen wir uns lieber auf Erfahrungswerte verlassen, die es noch einzuholen gilt. Genauso müssen eine Tax File Number beantragt, eine Bank ausgewählt, Routen geplant, ein RSA Zertifikat erworben und Adressen gespeichert werden. Aber Moment, wir wollten die komplizierte Arbeit ja aufschieben.

Deswegen beginnen wir mit genau dem hier: Unserem Blog. Was braucht der als erster? - einen Titel und da haben wir schon das erste Problem. Zu den äußerst geistreichen Einfällen gehörten:

Power Perth Girls, Perthy Cat Dolls, Canberra Checkers, Underdowns, Canberra Crocodiles, Koala, Croco und Co, Crocodile Dundee, Brisbane Brains, From Upside Down, Aid for Adelaide, Digga Didgeridoo, Freedom Fighters, Freedom Writers, Hintenraus und Flipper und Lopaka.

Flipper und Lopaka? Eine Zeichentrickserie die auf Kika lief und in der Tat australischen Ursprungs ist! Genauso wie Blinky Bill. Eine total niedliche Show, nach der ich (Shirin) ja gerne den gesamten Blog benannt hätte.

Jedenfalls danken wir Yoram Gross für diese wundervollen Zeichentrickfilme unserer Kindheit, die uns natürlich die Sehnsucht nach Australien in die Wiege legten. Kennt ihr auch "Skippy, der Buschpilot?". Wir kannten es nicht.

Letztendlich kamen wir auf den jetzigen Titel in Anlehnung an die Filme 96 Hours und 96 Hours Taken 2. Denn genau 6599 Stunden werden wir uns Down Under durchs Leben kämpfen, Eindrücke sammeln, Erfahrungen machen und das Leben genießen.

Wie ihr seht: Australien ist zum Greifen nah. Das Land der Unbegrenztheit, ob es sich um Möglichkeiten, Fläche, Flora und Fauna oder die Phantasie dreht. Wo sonst werden die ulkigsten Geschöpfe entdeckt, verloren, wieder entdeckt oder noch gar nicht entdeckt? Wo verschwindet sonst ein Premierminister in den Wellen, ohne dass der Rest der Welt davon hört? Wo gehört einer einzelnen Familie eine Farm mit der Größe von halb Deutschland? Wo gibt es die größte Anzahl giftiger Spezies und gleichzeitig die entspanntesten Menschen dieser Erde?

Man merkt es: So nervenaufreibend die nächsten Monate offensichtlich werden, so wenig können wir es erwarten, den Flieger zu betreten.

Tracking Blinky Bill

It is the 19th July and in 19 days we are taking off. 2 days on the go, layover in Singapur, until we will arrive in Sydney on the 9th August in the afternoon. We don’t know yet where we will stay, what we will do there and when we will leave the supposed capitol towards Western Australia.

However, the flight is booked making backing out impossible and the German weather is for once preparing us for the upcoming trip. While we are already panting outside, with cold water and melting pralines, these temperatures are nothing against those still awaiting us.

We are carefree, ignoring the mount of work waiting to get done, and occupy ourselves with the packing list. Light fare for the beginning. Of course one could look for possible (overly expensive) hostels, but looking at the carious choices we would like to rely on the experience others made, whom we still have to ask. In the same manner we have to request a tax file number, chose a bank, plan our routes, obtain a RSA certificate and save addresses. But wait, we wanted to procrastinate the complicated tasks.

For that reason we are starting with this right now: our blog. What does it need first? A title and that’s where the first problem occurs. The very ingenious ideas contained:

Flipper and Lopaka? An animation series shown on Kika and actually of Australian origin! Just as Blinky Bill. A simply adorable show, after which I (Shirin) would have liked to name the whole Blog.

Anyways, we are thanking Yoram Gross for these wonderful animation series from our childhood, which had us grow up with a yearning for Australian travels. Do you know “Skippy: Adventures in Bushtown” as well? We didn’t.

Finally we decided on this title in the style of the movies 96 Hours and 96 Hours Taken 2. Because for exactly 6599 hours we will be fighting our ways through life, gather impressions, make experiences and enjoy life.

As you can see: Australia is within our grasp. The country of infinity, if it is concerning opportunities, area, flora and fauna or our imagination. Where else are the weirdest creatures found, lost, found again or not found at all? Where else does a prime minister disappear in the waves without the rest of the world hearing about it? Where does one family own a farm big as half of Germany? Where do they have the largest amount of poisonous species and at the same time the most relaxed people on earth?

You can tell: As nerve-racking the next months will obviously be, as little we can wait to board the plane.
