Who stole the coconut?

LFor those of you (probably English speaking) who don't know the children's song just type "wer hat die kokosnuss geklaut" into youtube for the melody. As a translation of the chorus:
"The ape mob is going crazy,
As they are missing their coconut.
Who has the coconut?
Who has the coconut?
Who has stolen the coconut?"

In real life having your food stolen is not that funny. I mean it is a little bit when you figure out that your room mates didnt't just finish it all off (how could they, there was a whole slab of butter in it) or hide it and when the reception didn't take them out either because they were plastic and not cooling bags we really had to laugh. Who steals other people's food? Who would take our breakfast and Anja's gluten free bread? The manager said they would have a look through the security footage to find out and replace the "damage". But so far they haven't gotten back to us. So in the beginning we were angry with Raul and Lauritz because we thought they had taken or eaten it! Then it was funny when we heard there was a thief in the works. Well and now it's just annoying again because nothing is happening and food here is hellish expensive!
Speaking of food we visited Chris and Halia again on sunday for a lovely dinner and some game time. Luey's Game of Things sounds perfectly suited for our family! Chris made kangaroo for us and I had a first taste of meat in 1 1/2 - 2 years. It didn't make me gag but it's not converting me back to a meat eater either. I just made sure not to chew too much because of the unusual texture and just swallowed it. I don't know wether i just don't like kangaroo or wether I just don't like meat but turning away the mushroom sauce with bacon was no problem at all. Anja also made a video and maybe I will upload it when I have a better internet connection.

It's half past 12 and we pretty much just woke up. Why of course because it is New Year's day! A great time to sleep in :) for the special occasion Anja and I kicked the night off with a masquerade including a free cocktail and delicious finger food.

After that we had planned to meet up with Tim (from our hostel) and his friends who we thought were in Albert Park. Then they called they were in Edinburgh gardens which are all the way on the other side of the city! It was already past eleven and we were afraid to still be sitting in public transport when the clock stroke midnight. Therefore we decided to call a cab. The first one said he wanted 45. The second one said around 20. Guess which one we took.
The taxi driver was older and advised us not to get drunk. And to be careful with strangers. And always, always to stay away from drugs! What a sweet heart. While we were on our way we got a call from Tim who told us to stop because they were nowhere near Fitzroy North. Instead they went to the Arts centre. That was good for us as it made the cab trip much cheaper. The arts center is very close to Federation Square and the area was packed with people! The ten minutes we had prior to midnight I managed to get to know two people, Koko who actually is Kornelius and Mark, who is English. All of us beside him were Germans and most everyone just recently arrived in Melbourne.
This was the first New Year's that didn't have a countdown. So all of a sudden unexpectedly the sky exploded. The fireworks built a triangle as they were shot from three skyscraper so no one really knew where to look. I didn't expect much of them but they were beautiful.

Anja and I hugged and kissed an laughed. And then all those strangers came around and gave us big hugs. I got to know David from Cologne who is funny but can't get his teeth apart. The following three hours were a big back and forth! Nobody really had a clue what to do or where to go until most bars were closed anyways. I spent the time talking to people and didn't really mind not having to spend more money. At some point Anja and I decided to walk back to St Kilda because we were pretty tired and beside Manu's phonecall at 9 which almost made me fall out of bed I had a pretty good sleep!

Happy New Year from Skipper and Munchkin!
