Aid for Adelaide

When Florian and I came up with this title for our Blog way back then, we didn't know Adelaide did actually need help.
Before coming here I asked for suggestions on what to do while in Adelaide. The conversations went similar to this:
"What do you think I should do in Adelaide?" - "Leave again."

"You know there is not much to do there?" - "Well, I am only there for around a week." - "A week too long!"

Sure it is far away from everything and in the middle of the desert. It is a huge big flat city surrounded by hills and it's trees are more brown than green, but there must be something to do here!
After surviving the flight (two hours delay, two approaches at landing) and spending my first night with my lovely and welcoming family I decided on Tuesday to give this state capital a try.
Since Aunt Hilla lives really, really far down South it took me about 90 minutes to reach the city centre by bus.Not knowing where to go I chose the only to me known street as my destination: Waymouth St where Florian's hostel is. Upon asking the old lady next to me for help the two men behind and the one in front of me started engaging in the conversation, making guesses and in the end pulling out their smartphones to all google that street.
I called Flo and we decided to meet up at Telstra, where I could have wifi and google some Tours and Melbourne jobs. Except Telstra didn't have wifi. And the directions to McDonald's I was given then led me into the full on shopping area, where no Mecces was near, but sure enough a factorie store. A heaven I can't afford. When leaving the shop, however, I found myself in front of a totally different sort of fortunate paradise -> the Apple Store. Their wifi sadly brought no results.
Florian and I headed towards China Town as soon as we had found each other, to find a cheap lunch there. Mind you, another food court should do! Here I find it even harder though, to seek up some tasty vegetarian options, because most meals contain meat! In Tasmania it is supposedly even worse. After a stop by an authentic Asian store, where we failed at finding the delicious mung bean cakes Freya served once, we went back towards the river, passing the university campus. It was hot and stuffy and I was scared not to be able to catch one of those buses back. In the end we spent a lot time in the city, not doing much.

Today I went up to a supposedly German village which had nothing to with my home country besides a few mispronounced street names. Robin's daughter Emma lives close to Hahndorf though, so we payed her and her lovely family a visit for lunch, wine tasting and delicious ice cream! The two younger boys Archie and Oliver were rather shy in the beginning, but they warmed up towards the end and their oldest daughter Imogen, who is six, went in straight for a hug. I am still not much of a wine person but at least I agreed with Robin on the second one (a Sauvignon Blanc or something) being the worse! He didn't specifically like any of them though.

According to Florian the Bontanic Garden must be nice, so within my days here I will check that out and also the South Australian museum, because I saw a brochure for it and it didn't seem all too bad. On Saturday Robin and I will visit his sister Deena and as of now I am sitting in the YHA hostel on Waymouth Street where I will spend one night. For one. To see Florian one last time who leaves on Friday and also because I booked a Kangaroo Island tour leaving tomorrow at 6 am and I didn't want Robin to have to drive me way in the morning. The tour takes two days and I return after Florian has left so we will now think of something cool to spend outlast evening with!
This weekend then,I will tell you aaaall about Kangaroo Island ;)

See ya, Maties.
